Danny Broad (2015)The ARA is proud to host another AusRAIL, the Australasian rail industry’s pre-eminent conference and exhibition.
More than $45 billion will be invested in Australian rail projects in the next five years. While rail’s importance to Australia’s economic future cannot be over-stated, we must not rest on our laurels.
This year’s theme is Rail – Moving the Economy Forward and we’ve adopted a new approach; focusing on freight and manufacturing on day one and exploring passenger rail issues on day two.
Forums such as “Investment and Innovation: How can we fast-forward change in the freight game?” and “Technology, Social Media and Big Data: Embracing change to improve the customer offering” are sure to prove informative and of great interest. Independent facilitators will spark debate and discussions with depth.
With our male-dominated workforce, I’m sure many delegates will take interest in the “Women in Rail” forum. Speakers include Emma Thomas, Director-General of Transport Canberra and City Services; Sue McCarrey, CEO, The Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator; and Naomi Frauenfelder, Executive Director of TrackSAFE. To ensure a gender diverse approach, Pacific National CEO, David Irwin is facilitating this forum.
Rail is always looking for its next innovation. As an AusRAIL first, and to engage young professionals, we are calling for innovative new ideas – large or small – that could contribute to Australia’s rail future. Young professionals are invited to submit their concept by Friday 23 September. Finalists will be flown to Adelaide to pitch their idea as part of the AusRAIL agenda. The conference program will be complemented by an impressive trade exhibition with more than 200 Australian and overseas companies set to be on display. Networking Drinks at the end of day one will take place within the exhibition and I encourage you to wander as you network.
AusRAIL 2016 will close with the Gala Dinner, offering delegates the opportunity to relax and reconnect with contacts. Sponsored by Downer, the evening is sure to provide a memorable conclusion to AusRAIL 2016.
This year we have introduced discounted rates for ARA members, providing 20 per cent off registration and dinner rates.
Whether you are local or travelling to join us, I’m sure that AusRAIL 2016 will be an industrious and rewarding experience for you.
I look forward to seeing you in November.
